How do I register with this forum so that I can post messages?

Please log-in to the forum http://pub23.ezboard.com/bglassartsocietyforum by doing the following:

1. Click on the "Login" link that is located in the upper right hand side of the page.

2. If you are already a member of EZBoard, please sign in and skip to step 8. If you don't have an account with EZBoard, you will need to click on the link "Register now!".

3. Fill in the form (I suggest that you uncheck the box for receiving junk from advertisers but you must check the box agreeing to EZBoard's terms of use).

4. You will receive an e-mail that contains a link to activate your account (if you do

not receive the e-mail, please let us know). Click on that link to activate your account.

5. Now return to the GAS Forum site (http://pub23.ezboard.com/bglassartsocietyforum).

6. Click on the same "Login" link that you did earlier and login with your new User Name and Password.

7. Now return again to the GAS Forum site (http://pub23.ezboard.com/bglassartsocietyforum) - I know this seems ridiculous but you will only have to do this once.

8. You are now a member of the forum and you will be able to post messages.

How do I quote from other messages?

You can reply in a forum one of two ways. First, you can click the "add reply" button. When you do this you will get a copy of the last message in the forum beneath your message composing window from which you can copy and paste text. Second, you can click on the reply link to the left of the message beneath the poster's name. If you do this, you will get a copy of that specific message beneath the message composition window from which you can copy and paste.

How do I add emoticons to my messages?

While in the message composing dialogue window, you will see on the right side in the formatting row a box that says "use emoticons". Check it. Beneath that box are two radial buttons: "show" and "hide". Click "show". The available emoticons will appear. To add one to your message just click on it. There are additional emoticons available for your use when you click on "Complete List".

How can I preview my message before I actually post it?

At the bottom of the message composing dialogue box there is the "add reply" button. If you click the "preview" box next to it before clicking on "add reply", you will get to see an accurate representation of your message. Remember that it is not posted at this point! You must still click on "add post" to actually post the message.

How do I add images to my message?

Step 1: The images that you post in this forum must be saved with either .gif or .jpg file name extensions. Once you have your images saved in .jpg or .gif format, be sure that they are of a reasonable size. This forum requires that the size of your images be no more than 600 pixels in any direction and no more than 50k in file size. Images that are deemed too large will be deleted by the forum moderator. File sizes can be reduced through adjustment of .jpg compression and by reducing the height and width of the image using any good graphics editing program such as: PhotoShop, Photo Impact or PhotoStudio.

Step 2: In order to post an image to the Glass Art Society forum you need to have a URL web address for the image you want to post. The image must be uploaded from your computer to a server so that it can be seen by any internet user. The server that you use can be your personal Internet Service Provider (ISP). Many ISP's, including AOL, AT&T and most local providers allow their subscribers to have personal Web pages. You can use your allotted space to store the images that you wish to post in this (and other) forums. You may also use an image hosting service, many of them are free. Just do a Google search to find several of these services. Here are a couple that you might want to check out:

Step 3: Now that you have your image saved on your computer (no more than 600 pixels in any direction and no more than 50k in file size) and uploaded to the internet, you are ready to post it in the forum.

From the message composition dialogue window, you must click on “HTML” in the formatting section. A column of buttons will appear on the left side of the screen. The first button will say “image”. When you click on that, you will get a dialogue box that requests the URL (user resource link) of the image you want to include. Simply type or paste the link there. In your message composing box you will only see a link appear, but if you click on “preview” and “add post” you will see an accurate preview of your message that will include the image. (It is important to remember that the image must be available on a server somewhere on the internet. Images on your own computer will not work unless your computer itself is a server on the internet.) Then click on “add post” to actually post your message. Remember to restrict the size of your images to no more than 600 pixels in any direction and no more than 50k in file size. Images that are deemed to large will be deleted by the forum moderator.

How do I add a custom avatar?

Custom avatars are done the same way. Scroll up to the top of the page until you see the forum title. Just under the title is a link called My Control Center. Click on that link. You should click on a link called 'Edit my profile'. Right at the top, you should see a section that says 'my photo'. This is where you can put in the URL of your avatar. The size limit is 60x60. Please also keep the FILE size as small as possible, 72 dpi is recommended (if you link to a huge image, we all still have to download it when viewing the forums, even though Ezboard squashes it to 60x60 size!) You will need to also add this to the 'Account Preferences' page where it says, 'Use Personal Icon URL' and make sure the box is checked.

How do I add links to my message?

This is done in a similar way as adding images. Make sure that HTML is selected in the formatting section of the message composition dialogue box. A list of buttons will appear on the left side of the box. "Link" is the second one down. Clicking on it will pull up an entry field where you should enter the URL (user resource link) you want to link to. Click "OK". Then you will see a field where you should enter the word you want to associate with the link. Click "OK" and the html code for the linked word will appear in your message composition box. Preview the message to see how it will look when posted. The word will appear colored and clicking on it will take you to the linked site.

Can I include a custom signature in my messages?

If custom signatures are enabled in the forum you are viewing, yes. You can create a custom signature in your profile page. To include it in your message, click on the "include custom signature" box at the bottom of the message composition dialogue window. The custom signature you create in your account preferences will appear in your post. Please use several dashes (------------) for the first line of your signature, hit return and then type your 'signature' statement. That way it will be much easier to see where your signature starts and where your message ends. Or you can use a series of 'underline' characters (like ____________) before the signature. Separating the signature this way makes for a better read when viewing your posts.

Can I request that I be notified by e-mail if someone responds to my post?

Yes. At the bottom of the message composition dialogue window there is a box you should click if you want to be notified by e-mail of any responses to your message.

How can I see only the new posts when I log on to the Forum?

Go to the main 'G.A.S. Forum' opening page . On the right, near the top of the page, in the same line that says "logged in as ______", there is a group of linked texts. One says "Show new only", another says "Mark ALL forums read". When you click on either of these links, only the new messages that have been posted since you were last in any of the forums, will appear or will have a blue dot next to them. On each of the individual forum pages there is linked text that says "Mark forum read'. Clicking on this will affect only the messages in that forum.

How can I delete or edit a message I have already posted?

You can edit or delete any message that you have posted. Just go to that message and look under your username on the left side of the screen. There you will see three links: "reply", "edit" and "delete". Clicking on "edit" will take you to the message composing dialogue window where you will find your message just the way you first composed it. You can make any necessary changes and re-post the message. Clicking on "delete" will allow you to remove that message entirely.

How do I send a private message to another member?

Just click on that member's name at the left side of any message posted by that member. Or, if that member has been in the forum within the last 15 minutes, you can click on their name along the bottom of the main forum page where it says, "visitors in the last 15 minutes". This will take you to that member's profile page from which you can send them a personal message.

How do I edit my profile?

At the top left hand side of the main page of the forum is a link that says "My Control Center". Clicking on this will take you to your control center where you can edit all the aspects of your personal Ezboard account. From here you can view or edit your profile. Clicking on "edit profile" takes you to the edit profile page. Fill in the information that you wish to have visible in your profile and select a profile "skin" (a background for your profile page) if you do not like the default one (sprockets). If you want a personal picture or avatar to appear next to your name on posts, be sure to include it in the "my photo" box and uncheck the "private" box.

How do I edit my account preferences?

This is also done from the Control Center . This link is located next to "edit profile". Clicking on it will take you to the account preferences page. Here you can change a number of preferences as well as create a custom signature. If you want to use a custom image or avatar be sure to add it here in the "personal icon URL" line.
